Overview and Key Figures

The Housing Welfare Program (PVB) has exceeded its initial start-up goal for 2025, despite challenges in land acquisition and construction permits. According to official figures, the program has initiated the construction of 390,983 homes nationwide, representing a 22% advancement towards its six-year target of 1.8 million homes.

Program Coordination and Partners

The PVB is coordinated by the Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (SEDATU) in collaboration with the National Housing Commission (CONAVI), the National Institute of Workers’ Housing (INFONAVIT), and the ISSSTE Housing Fund (FOVISSSTE).

SEDATU’s head, Edna Vega Rangel, explained that the initial objective was to commence 386,000 homes; however, it was surpassed by 101% of the planned amount, which will benefit approximately 1.4 million people.

Recent Developments and Future Plans

Vega Rangel announced that 6,401 homes will be handed over soon, marking the beginning of the occupation phase for thousands of families.

“Given the high demand for registrations across the country to the Housing Welfare Program, CONAVI conducted 154 lot allocation draws for non-rightful families between December 16 and 17, benefiting 31,934 families with assigned homes,” stated the official.

Characteristics of Welfare Homes

The Welfare Homes will have an approximate price of 600,000 pesos and cover a surface area of 60 square meters. Each home will include two bedrooms, a living-dining room, a kitchen, a full bathroom, and a service patio.

These projects are already underway in Tamaulipas, Coahuila, Michoacán, Morelos, Nuevo León, and Hidalgo.

Target Population and Prioritization

The federal government aims to address the population with significant housing backlogs through this initiative. The program targets individuals with monthly incomes below 17,000 pesos, equivalent to two minimum wages.

The PVB prioritizes women heading households, people with disabilities, adults over 60, and young individuals to broaden access to suitable housing for vulnerable sectors.
