Querétaro’s Prominence in the Automotive Parts Industry

Querétaro, Qro. In addition to being the fifth-largest producer of automotive parts in Mexico, Querétaro stands out for its development of high-quality automotive parts and systems, according to Francisco González Díaz, President of the Mexican National Association of Automotive Parts (INA).

Querétaro’s Position in the Automotive Parts Sector

When discussing Querétaro’s involvement in the automotive parts industry, González Díaz emphasized that the state aims to maintain its position as a leading entity in this sector. He highlighted Querétaro’s reputation for highly skilled labor rather than low-cost workforce, expressing optimism about its continued leadership in high-quality components.

Economic Contribution and Future Prospects

From January to September 2025, Querétaro’s automotive parts manufacturing contributed $7,010 million, accounting for 7.8% of the national value and placing it fifth among Mexico’s leading producers. Coahuila led the pack with a 15% share, followed by Guanajuato (13.7%), Nuevo León (13.1%), and Chihuahua (8.8%) according to INA data.

Querétaro is among the entities actively engaged in developing automotive systems and software, components increasingly vital to modern vehicles. By 2035-2040, software is projected to constitute nearly a third (35%) of vehicle content. Currently, software integration ranges from 5% to 10%, presenting a significant growth opportunity for the Mexican automotive sector.

Mexico’s Capabilities and Human Resource Development

González Díaz affirmed that Mexico possesses the capabilities to develop these advanced systems, though acknowledged the necessity for human capital development. He stressed the rapid advancement of software and the importance of nurturing talent to keep pace with market demands, particularly in electromobility.

Electric Parts and INA Insights

According to the INA, the highest-value production groups for automotive parts in Mexico (January-September) include electric components (19.2%), transmissions and clutches (9.8%), textiles, carpets, and seats (9.1%), engine parts (8.1%), and suspension and steering systems (6.7%).
