Introduction to Safran and its Relevance
Safran, a French manufacturer in the aeronautical sector, is planning to increase its workforce in Querétaro, Mexico. Currently employing around 3,000 people, the company aims to reach nearly 4,000 workers by 2028-2029. This expansion represents roughly a fifth of the 18,000 employees Safran expects to have in Mexico by 2028.
Key Projects Driving Workforce Growth
Alejandro Cardona Seemann, President of Safran in Mexico, explained that the new jobs will strengthen the company’s operations through three expansion projects in Querétaro.
- Safran Aero Composites (SAC) Expansion: Construction began in early December 2025 to add production lines for the LEAP 1A and 1B engine edge-of-attack.
- Safran Landing Systems Services Americas Expansion: The company plans to expand its facilities for landing systems services.
- Safran Aircraft Engine Services Americas Expansion: Safran aims to increase its aircraft engine services operations.
Additional Facilities and Testing Cells
As part of these projects, Safran intends to add a second motor testing cell due to the high volume of new motors. This will make Querétaro home to the country’s only three testing cells, with ITP Aero having established the first one in Querétaro.
Safran’s Current Impact on Mexico
Currently, Safran generates nearly 16,000 jobs in Mexico, making it the leading employer in the aerospace sector nationwide. The company represents almost 25% of the national aerospace workforce and contributes nearly 8% to Mexico’s aerospace industry exports.
Future Growth and Talent Strategy
With six existing plants in Querétaro, Safran plans to add new installations as part of its growth strategy. To address the need for specialized talent, Safran collaborates with the Querétaro Aeronautical University, sharing specifications for the required personnel in the coming years.
