Mexico’s Roster for the 2026 World Baseball Classic Includes Toronto Blue Jays Catcher

Mexico has added another star to their roster for the World Baseball Classic 2026. Alejandro Kirk, the catcher for the Toronto Blue Jays, has confirmed his presence on the national team, which also includes Randy Arozarena and Jarren Duran. The mission for the Mexican team is to break through the semifinals barrier, where they ended their participation in 2023.

A Rising Star

Kirk, a native of Tijuana, made his debut with the Toros de Tijuana before being scouted by the Blue Jays in 2016. He played for Toronto’s two Class A affiliates in 2019 (Dunedin and Lansing) and made his Major League debut against the New York Mets in 2020. Since then, he has been called up to the All-Star Game twice (2022 and 2025), was the MLB Silver Slugger in 2022, and is an integral part of the Blue Jays’ lineup.

In the most recent season with Toronto, Kirk hit 15 home runs and drove in 76 runs while being a crucial part of the team’s journey to the World Series, contributing five home runs in the postseason (.254, 5 HR, 13 RBI,.349 OBP, and.493 SLG).

Experienced Batter

Randy Arozarena, a naturalized batter, will return to the Mexican team after his first experience with the national jersey three years ago, protecting the outfield. Arozarena is part of the Seattle Mariners and in the 2025 regular season, he hit 27 home runs, marking his best year and reaching the American League Championship Series.

“Arozarena was included in the Ideal Team of the 2023 World Baseball Classic as an outfielder, alongside stars Mike Trout (USA) and Masataka Yoshida (Japan); he led the national team in batting average and runs batted in,” according to the Mexican team’s statement.
