Introduction to the Attention to Root Causes of Violence Strategy

The Mexican government, in collaboration with local and state authorities, has implemented the “Attention to Root Causes of Violence” strategy. This initiative aims to address the underlying factors contributing to violence across the country.

Key Achievements

  • More than 4.8 million interventions have been provided, benefiting over 3.1 million people in 12 federal entities.
  • Since November 2024, the strategy has reached 61 priority municipalities.
  • Over 279,000 households have been visited, resulting in:
    • 409 Peace Fairs
    • 344 Peace Committees with community participation
    • Recovery of 308 public spaces
    • 7,050 Peace Days

Regional Impact

Tijuana, Baja California

In Tijuana, 126,729 interventions were provided, including:

  • 30 Peace Fairs
  • 21 Peace Committees and one Civil Peace and Justice Council
  • Recovery of 54 public spaces

Chiapas

In Chiapas, the strategy focused on these municipalities: Amatenango de la Frontera, Chenalhó, Chicomuselo, Frontera Comalapa, La Trinitaria, Pantelhó, San Cristóbal de las Casas, and Tila. Over 120,909 interventions were carried out.

Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua

In Ciudad Juárez, 136,000 interventions were provided, along with Peace Fairs, Peace Committees, and public space recovery.

Colima and Manzanillo

More than 22,000 interventions were conducted in Colima and Manzanillo.

State of Mexico

In the State of Mexico, interventions were provided in these municipalities: Amecameca, Atenco, Chimalhuacán, Chalco, Ecatepec, Ixtapaluca, Nezahualcóyotl, San Vicente Chicoloapan, Texcoco, and Valle de Chalco Solidaridad. A total of 317,351 interventions were carried out.

Guanajuato

In Celaya, León, and Salamanca, a combined total of 463,000 interventions were provided.

Jalisco

Jalisco received 65,818 interventions.

Michoacán

In 24 municipalities, including Uruapan, Ario de Rosales, Cuitzeo, and Juárez, 118,000 interventions were provided.

Collaborative Projects

In partnership with the Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development, 14 projects were implemented to build community development centers, sports facilities, and parks in priority municipalities.
