Grupo Salinas is one of Mexico’s largest privately-held companies, with significant influence in the country’s economy and society.

The Tax Dispute

In 2013, the Mexican federal tax authority initiated a dispute with Grupo Salinas over alleged unpaid Impuesto Sobre la Renta (ISR) for the years 2008 through 2013. The disagreement escalated into a prolonged legal battle, lasting over a dozen years and involving substantial financial claims by the government.

The Agreement

After years of litigation, the Mexican federal government and Grupo Salinas reached an agreement. Under this agreement, Grupo Salinas will pay 32.132 billion pesos to settle the outstanding tax debt, effectively ending the longstanding dispute.

Details of the Payment

According to the tax authority, 10.400 billion 630,537 pesos were immediately transferred to the Federal Treasury on the same day the agreement was announced. The remaining balance will be covered through 18 installment payments.

Grupo Salinas confirmed that they have fulfilled all demands made by the tax authority in this lengthy litigation. Luciano Pascoe Rippey, Director General of News and Communications for Grupo Salinas, stated:

“We have paid everything that the tax authority demanded in this long litigation. Now, we owe nothing to the government for any reason.”

Pascoe Rippey also highlighted that Grupo Salinas’ companies have paid over 300,000 billion pesos in tax obligations.

“No one can deny that we have fulfilled our responsibilities to Mexico. However, despite being deeply disagreeing with the additional payments, we choose to move forward and put an end to this systematic campaign against us.”
