Airport Director Shares Positive Outlook for 2025
Guadalajara, Jalisco. During the first four months of the year, the Guadalajara International Airport reported an 8.9% increase in passenger movement compared to the same period last year, according to its director, Martín Pablo Zazueta.
“This implies that by the end of this year, we will be close to 20 million passengers. We will continue monitoring the numbers, but everything indicates that we will have very positive figures and Jalisco will keep growing, with the Guadalajara airport maintaining a positive trend for the coming years,” Zazueta emphasized.
April Sees 9% Increase in Passengers
According to statistics from the Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), which manages and operates the Guadalajara airport, April alone saw 1.5 million tourists, a 9% increase compared to April 2024.
Considering the January-April accumulation, the Guadalajara airport facilitated over 6 million travelers, an 8.9% increase from the first quarter of 2024 when it attended 5.5 million passengers.
Infrastructure Expansion Plans
Zazueta Chávez reiterated that the Guadalajara International Airport will receive the largest share of the GAP’s investment for its 12 airports in the country over the 2025-2029 quinquennium.
“We have just begun the new quinquennium with an unprecedented investment of over 22,500 million pesos, plus any commercial developments that may arise; it will be five intense years, but fortunately, the projects we undertake will not interfere with daily operations,” he highlighted.
Key infrastructure projects for the Guadalajara airport include constructing a new terminal building of 69,000 square meters, a second road access of 6 kilometers from Adolf B. Horn Avenue, and acquiring 285 hectares of land to ensure future airport growth.
“We are finalizing the last details, especially with the World Cup in mind, which will allow us to present the best possible face for both arrivals and departures of our visitors; we will start building Terminal 2, roadways, but they won’t affect daily passenger operations,” Zazueta insisted.
Growth in Domestic Travelers
According to GAP statistics, the largest growth percentage during the first four months of the year was in domestic passengers, rising from 3.6 million to over 4 million—a 12% increase compared to the first quarter of 2024.
Meanwhile, international tourists grew by 2.5% in the same period.
The GAP reported that the number of offered seats in April 2025 increased by 11% compared to April 2024, while the occupancy rate dropped from 81.8% in April 2024 to 80.4% in April 2025.
Zazueta, the airport director, stated that the reduction in seats due to motor revisions in some aircraft did not significantly impact this airport.
“International traffic is growing, and domestic travel is also increasing. Although the motor and revision issue hasn’t been fully resolved, traffic is growing, airlines are adding more capacity, and once this issue stabilizes globally, we will see an additional boost, and traffic will continue to grow,” he added.
