Background on Abbott and its Relevance
Abbott, a prominent American healthcare company, has recently initiated operations for its electrophysiology manufacturing plant in Querétaro, Mexico. The plant currently employs 309 individuals, but the company aims to expand its workforce significantly.
Abbott’s Growth Plans and Current Employment
According to Abbott’s CEO, Robert Ford, the company anticipates reaching 1,200 employees by 2030. Currently, Abbott employs 1,400 people in Mexico, and this number is expected to double as the new Querétaro unit grows.
Areas of Interest for New Hires
Juan Pablo Seguí, the Human Resources Manager at Abbott, mentioned that the company is actively recruiting talent across various areas of the newly inaugurated plant, which opened in late January. He highlighted the abundance of talent in Querétaro, particularly in operations, quality assurance, human resources, finance, and supply chain management.
Product Line and Initial Production
The new Abbott plant will develop and manufacture high-precision electrophysiology devices used in minimally invasive procedures to restore cardiac rhythms. These devices include electrophysiology catheters for diagnosing and mapping arrhythmias, therapeutic catheters, and vascular access systems.
Initially, the produced devices will be shipped to the United States before being distributed to other regions, according to Edgar Romero, Country Manager for Abbott’s Electrophysiology business in North Latin America.
“Initially, production is sent to the United States; subsequently, it will be distributed across the rest of the world, including Canada, Europe,” Romero explained.
Local Suppliers and Export Destinations
Regarding the possibility of developing local suppliers, Romero noted that Abbott currently has a well-certified supplier line and all necessary resources for their operations.
The devices manufactured in Querétaro will be exported to various countries, including those in Europe, Canada, Japan, and Australia, in addition to the United States.
