Overview and Key Figures

Carlos Sosa Spínola, president of the National Chamber of Transforming Industry (Canacintra) in Puebla, expressed confidence that six pending investment projects will materialize in the state this year. These investments were postponed until 2025 due to uncertainty caused by former U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff decisions.

Relevant Sectors

The pending investments are in the metalworking, industrial, and plastics sectors, which constitute a significant portion of Puebla’s industrial activity.

Current Investment Landscape

Sosa Spínola mentioned that, despite ongoing uncertainty about the potential revision of the USMCA (United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement), there is a sense of certainty in 2026. Companies with pending projects are determined to implement their plans within the coming months, which will bolster industrial activities for Canacintra.

One of the investments is estimated to be around $10 million and aims to create 1,000 direct jobs. However, the company’s name has not been disclosed yet.

“Given the high value of these investments, we aim to provide support so that these projects are realized this year. We hope for favorable tax incentives from local authorities,” Sosa Spínola stated.

Development Polo

On another note, Sosa Spínola believes that the Polo de Desarrollo del Bienestar presents opportunities for attracting more investments to San José Chiapa municipality. However, a more “aggressive” plan is needed to transition from letters of intent to concrete projects.

The Secretariat for Economic Development and Employment in Puebla stated that the more than 257 hectares available in the development polo are either occupied or designated, though no investment announcements have been made.

Sosa Spínola mentioned that if this is true, he will request further extensions in the area where AUDI’s plant and its supplier park operate, to accommodate more short-term projects.

Additionally, he emphasized the need to expand road infrastructure in that region, constructing an highway to alleviate traffic congestion—a demand from local businesses.

He pointed out that the current road is insufficient for both residents and established industries, as it has been plagued by frequent accidents affecting logistical activities.

In this context, Sosa Spínola highlighted the importance of collaboration between federal and state governments and private initiative to meet the development polo’s requirements.
