Background on Sinomex and Ankai
Sinomex, the exclusive representative in Mexico for the Chinese brand Ankai, specializes in passenger buses. Ankai is part of the JAC Group from China, known for introducing vehicles that can be configured with gas natural comprimido (CNG), gas natural licuado (LNG), diesel, electric, hybrid, and hydrogen-powered models.
Decline in Public Transportation Fleet and Current Electric Bus Situation
In Nuevo León, the public transportation fleet has significantly decreased from 6,568 units in 2009 to 2,602 units in 2021. Currently, there are approximately 250 electric buses in the state’s fleet, according to non-governmental organizations.
Sinomex’s New Service Center Investment
Diego Dignowity, Sinomex’s General Director, announced that the company will invest around 150 million pesos in a service and repair center for Ankai buses in the Monterrey metropolitan area. The facility is expected to start operations by the end of this year.
“The service center project is being built from scratch, designed to provide express attention to the units,” Dignowity explained.
Market Potential in Nuevo León
Dignowity believes there is a significant market potential for Ankai in Nuevo León, not only in sustainable urban transportation but also in personnel transport. Currently, there are around 850 urban units in the city, including 21 recently delivered Ankai buses for Transmetro’s northern ponent service, enhancing mobility.
He also mentioned that more public transportation units will be delivered in Monterrey soon, while Sinomex also serves other cities.
Expectation of Sustainable Unit Placement
Dignowity confirmed that Ankai units have been placed in Jalisco, Estado de México, Ciudad de México, Sonora, Oaxaca, and Chihuahua. This year, they aim to place approximately 1,000 new units.
“We have around 400 units already placed, and we are close to securing another 400,” Dignowity stated.
Sinomex, originally from Monterrey, currently operates a service center in Monterrey and a parts distribution center in Santa Catarina, supplying the entire country. They are planning to open an agency with a distribution and service center in Jalisco and Ciudad de México, as well as in Hermosillo, Sonora.
