Introduction to Mazda Kokoro

Mazda, a prominent Japanese automobile manufacturer, has launched the Kokoro program to support children in Mexico. This initiative aims to provide financial aid to help meet the basic needs of children, including nutrition and education. As of mid-2025, Mazda Kokoro has already distributed 20 million 153,450 Mexican pesos to various associations dedicated to aiding children in the country.

Understanding Kokoro

Kokoro, which translates to “heart” or “the soul of things,” is Mazda’s effort to support over 18 associations, including Pro educación IAP, I care foundation, Fundación huellas continuas, and Baisae A.C., through cash donations.

Funding Structure

The Mazda Kokoro program comprises three initiatives: Kokoro, Kokoro Becas, and Kokoro en acción. It gathers funds through the sale of each Mazda unit and post-sale service maintenance actions. For every Mazda sold, the company donates 100 pesos, with Mazda de México matching this amount. Similarly, for each maintenance service, both the distributor and Mazda contribute 25 pesos equally.

Employee Involvement

Mazda Kokoro also involves employees of Mazda de México through a volunteer program, allowing them to donate their time and skills.

Leadership Commitment

Miguel Barbeyto, President of Mazda de México, emphasized that Kokoro is the largest investment Mazda has ever made in Mexico, surpassing investments for the Salamanca manufacturing plant and bringing CX-3 production to Mexico.

“Without fear of making a mistake, I want to tell you that Mazda Kokoro is today the largest investment within the history of Mazda in Mexico. This investment is not a one-time affair but will live on as long as Mazda exists in Mexico, which I assure you, will be for many more years. This investment is directed towards what is most important to us in this country, which is the people, and even more so, the children of Mexico.”

Future Expansion

Mazda has announced that Kokoro is currently in its initial phase of operation but will add more actions supporting children as time progresses.

Projected Impact

In its first year, Mazda Kokoro aims to benefit 159,954 children in Mexico. With approximately 100,000 new vehicle sales and nearly 400,000 maintenance services annually, if multiplied over the next 80 years Mazda plans to operate in Mexico, the result would be a staggering 3.2 billion pesos.
