Leapmotor Partnership: A Bold Move in Mexico’s EV Market
Stellantis has announced a strategic alliance with Chinese automaker Leapmotor, targeting the Mexican market with electric vehicles (EVs). This partnership aims to introduce Leapmotor’s REEV (Range Extended Electric Vehicle) technology, focusing on extended range and affordability. The initial models, Leapmotor B10 and C10 SUVs, are expected to offer combined ranges exceeding 1,100 kilometers and competitive pricing. The B10 is estimated to be below 600,000 Mexican pesos, while the C10 is expected to be under 700,000 Mexican pesos. This strategy aims to democratize electric mobility by providing affordable options backed by Stellantis’ extensive distribution and after-sales network in Mexico.
Leapmotor’s new division will focus on fully electric vehicles, emphasizing performance and Italian design DNA.
Alfa Romeo Junior: Controversy and Compact Design
Alfa Romeo unveiled its first fully electric SUV in the B-segment, the Alfa Romeo Junior. Originally named “Milano” in honor of the brand’s hometown, the name was changed to “Junior” due to a legal dispute in Italy. The Junior retains Alfa Romeo’s iconic Italian and sporty design DNA in a more compact, modern format. Available in Europe with electric powertrains up to 153 hp, including the high-performance Veloce fully electric model, Stellantis has registered the industrial property of the model in the region. However, its official launch in Mexico is still pending confirmation.
The compact SUV’s arrival in Mexico by mid-2026 is growing more likely, bringing Alfa Romeo’s performance DNA to the market.
Jeep Cherokee 2026: A Strong Local Focus
Stellantis has confirmed the return of the iconic Jeep Cherokee midsize SUV, with production set to take place at Stellantis’ Toluca plant in Mexico. The renovated model is expected to hit the market in Q1 2026, highlighting Mexico’s strategic importance to Stellantis. This decision ensures quicker supply for the national market and potential regional exports.
The new Cherokee breaks from its predecessor’s design, adopting a more square and robust appearance that recalls the line’s utilitarian roots. This change goes beyond aesthetics, as interior space has been optimized, promising up to 30% more cargo volume than its predecessor—a critical factor in the competitive family SUV segment. The Cherokee’s return with national production, a redesigned look, and hybrid technology strengthens Stellantis’ SUV portfolio in Mexico. More details on versions, equipment, and pricing are expected closer to its anticipated launch in February or March 2026.
The Cherokee returns with performance and practicality improvements, produced in Toluca.
