Introduction
AI-GDC and Cipre Holding are spearheading a $1 billion investment in a high-performance computing and artificial intelligence (AI) data center using Nvidia technology in San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León.
Government Support and Nvidia’s Role
The government of Nuevo León highlighted this investment during the inauguration of the IA+ Inversión Acelerada event in Mexico City. Authorities from the state explained that this new high-performance computing and AI center with Nvidia technology will be an IA Ready data center, resulting from a private investment led by AI-GDC and Cipre Holding.
Nvidia clarified that it will not make financial investments in Nuevo León. However, the company reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the technological ecosystem in Mexico and Latin America through knowledge exchange, local partnerships, and training programs that promote technological advancement in the region.
Cipre Holding representatives confirmed that investment will indeed arrive in Nuevo León, stating, “Nvidia does not invest; the private companies do. What Nvidia provides is technology and infrastructure that we choose to acquire to implement and develop solutions for our companies, governments, and anyone requiring this type of AI infrastructure.”
Project Details and Impact
The project involves a $1 billion investment “over the coming years,” bolstering Nuevo León’s technological and innovation system. The high-performance computing and AI data center will be available to users across Mexico, as well as other countries, under a sovereignty concept where “data resides here, national security is here, and all this takes place on national territory without exposing data in other places or countries.”
Cipre Holding, an AI company, signed a sovereignty agreement with Nvidia for AI in Mexico. Together with AI-GDC, they will invest to create this type of infrastructure.
Mauricio Múñoz, director of Cluster IA Nuevo León, mentioned that this conglomerate is forming in San Pedro Garza García with nine companies and three universities, led by Cemex and the Technological Institute of Monterrey. They aim to close a multi-corporate investment fund of $12.5 million by mid-2026 to support AI startup projects, which would be the first of its kind in Latin America.
