The Midnight Aircraft Prototype
Archer unveiled a prototype of its Midnight aircraft during the announcement in New York City. The Midnight is described as “almost like a time machine,” enabling rapid travel from Manhattan to airports in just 5 to 10 minutes, compared to the usual 90-minute drive.
The Midnight aircraft features 12 motors and 12 propellers, capable of carrying one pilot and up to four passengers along with their luggage.
Regulatory Hurdles and Timeline
Archer still faces several challenges before the electric air taxi can operate commercially. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) must certify the vehicle, and a service start date remains uncertain.
While awaiting FAA approval, Archer is also seeking authorization in the United Arab Emirates, aiming for commercial launch by the last quarter of 2025.
Affordability and Expansion
Adam Goldstein believes that these air taxi services could eventually be more affordable than current travel options.
He envisions a gradual expansion, with a relatively small fleet in operation by 2025 and 2026, increasing significantly by the end of the decade.
