Chile and Colombia continue to have the highest volume of auto sales between January and August, with 210,701 and 150,263 units sold.

Segment-Specific Performance
Light Vehicles: Costa Rica and Guatemala saw the largest interannual declines in August, at 23.3%.
Heavy Vehicles: Colombia, Venezuela, and Peru experienced sales growth in heavy vehicles (commercial) for August 2025, with 75.0%, 47%, and 37% increases, respectively.
Mexico, Brazil, and Chile saw declines of 37.9%, 23.7%, and 16% in heavy vehicle sales.
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Trends
El Economista reported that FDI in Mexico’s automobile and truck production fell by 41% interannually in H1 2025, reaching $3,592 million.
FDI in the manufacturing of auto parts also decreased by 24.6%, to $1,232 million.
These figures are preliminary and recorded by the Secretaría de Economía for both H1 2025 and its comparison to H1 2024.
The decline in auto and truck sales compares to the record-high figure of $6.091 billion in H1 2024, just before tariffs took effect.
