Mexican Energy Giant Esentia Kicks Off Construction of Aguascalientes Compression Station

Esentia, Mexico’s leading natural gas commercializer (formerly known as Fermaca), has commenced construction on the Aguascalientes Compression Station, one of the key projects under Phase I of its expansion plan. This initiative is estimated to cost around $680 million and will increase the company’s natural gas transportation capacity by 11%, adding an additional 660 million cubic feet per day to its existing capacity.

The Aguascalientes Compression Station

Located on a 24,162-kilometer square plot, the Aguascalientes Compression Station will be part of the Villa de Reyes-Aguascalientes-Guadalajara (VAG) pipeline system. The initial phase of this construction involves land movement, followed by tubing, instrumentation, and turbocompressor installation works.

Daniel Bustos, Esentia’s General Director, stated, “This milestone marks the formal start of Phase I construction for our Expansion Plan. We will continue advancing consistently in developing strategic infrastructure, strengthening our position in the sector and generating sustainable value for our investors.”

With 20 years of experience in Mexico and the United States, Esentia operates Mexico’s largest interconnected natural gas system. This network delivers natural gas through five pipelines from Waha, Texas, across central Mexico to major industrial regions in Jalisco, San Luis Potosí, Bajio, and central Mexico.

In late 2021, Esentia launched an initial public offering to trade on the Mexican Stock Exchange, raising $548 million for expansion. Currently, Esentia transports 15% of Mexico’s natural gas, with a daily transportation capacity of 5.8 billion cubic feet and 1.8 billion cubic feet of compression.
