The Classic Broadway Musical That Captivated Club El Economista
On July 4, the renowned Broadway musical “La Tiendita de los Horrores,” blending comedy, science fiction, horror, and a musical score by Alan Menken, enchanted members of Club El Economista at Teatro Hidalgo. The event also marked the return of Chantal Andere to the stage.
A Unique Experience for Club Members
The meet-and-greet organized by the club allowed subscribers to learn about the production details. The actor portraying Seymour (Óscar Acosta) explained the functions of the 100% Mexican-made set, allowing attendees to take photos, ask questions, and even step onto the stage.
Impressions from the Audience
Ricardo Palma, a subscriber for over 15 years, expressed his surprise at the exceptional set design and production: “I didn’t expect such a fantastic stage setup, an impressive large-scale production. It’s fascinating to know the intense work behind it.”
A Captivating Musical Journey
Based on a science fiction film with humorous and fun elements, “La Tiendita de los Horrores” has traveled the world since its launch. Producer Juan Torres shared his enthusiasm for the show:
“It’s a timeless story that remains very relevant. It’s an interesting phenomenon we’ve all experienced, so I encourage El Economista’s audience not to miss the final weeks of this performance.”
A Box Office Sensation
Since its November debut last year, the musical has performed over 100 shows, becoming a box office sensation. The star-studded cast, led by Chantal Andere as Audrey and Oscar Acosta as Seymour, has been a major draw. Juan Torres added:
“We have a top-tier production with 12 musical theater actors, live musicians, and over 60 crew members behind the scenes.”
Overcoming Creative Challenges
One of the biggest challenges in presenting this project was creating the carnivorous plants, thinking about how to bring them to life and ensuring their functionality, especially the largest one, which reached Volkswagen size.
Subscriber Appreciation
Patricia Morales, a subscriber, highlighted the unique experience of being part of Club El Economista: “Being a member not only keeps you informed but also exposes you to theater performances, concerts, and more.”
Thought-Provoking Theater
The show serves as a reminder that theater can be both an escape and a space for reflection. As the director, Ricardo Díaz, concluded:
“We hope the audience leaves wanting to return to the theater, forgetting their daily routine for two hours. We also encourage them to reflect on personal limits and the potential for success or opportunity. Most importantly, we want them to recognize that we are all masters of our own lives and destinies.”
