Introduction to the Initiative by SICT
Riviera Maya, Qro. Road Efficiency. The Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) is preparing various actions aimed at improving operational conditions for self-regulated trucking companies transporting cargo. These actions include issuing recognition certificates to self-regulating companies, promoting private investment in the construction and operation of paraderos (transport hubs), and integrating information generated by concessionaires of highways to benefit users.
Recognized Self-Regulation and Benefits
Luis Ruiz, the head of the Federal Trucking General Directorate (DGAF), stated that they expect to establish guidelines for self-regulation recognition, initially focusing on weight and dimension regulations, driving time limits, within this month. This recognition will come with benefits for companies, ensuring smoother travel on Mexican roads without evading existing regulations.
Collaboration with ANTP and Other Organizations
During the 25th National Goods Transportation Forum, Ruiz emphasized their collaboration with the National Private Transport Association (ANTP) and other sector organizations to acknowledge their proactive work in these areas.
Sellos de Seguridad en Paraderos
Regarding safe transport hubs (paraderos) at strategic points in the road network, Ruiz announced that they will soon publish guidelines for interested investors to build and operate these hubs efficiently. Although no specific amounts were disclosed, Ruiz mentioned that interested parties must submit a project proposal for evaluation.
Collaboration with Highway Concessionaires
SICT aims to collaborate with highway concessionaires, including Caminos y Puentes Federales (Capufe), to avoid traffic bottlenecks at toll booths and gather unified information for strategies that directly benefit users.
Recognition of Industry Efforts
Tania Carro, the Undersecretary of Transportation, acknowledged the work done by formally organized companies in road safety, logistics, and cargo protection during the forum’s opening.
Carro highlighted the commitment from the fourth transformation’s second level to work together, strengthening supply chains and ensuring safe, efficient, and resilient transportation.
Importance of Collaboration in the Sector
Alex Theissen, ANTP’s president, stressed the significance of continuous collaboration among all sector participants to improve, promote, and develop Mexico’s cargo transportation in various modes.
Since its founding 30 years ago, ANTP has understood the core principles and consolidated them through various working groups focusing on road safety, environmental protection, mobility, infrastructure development, and competitiveness & productivity.
