The radio scene in Mexico City witnessed a significant increase in listenership during the first quarter of 2025. Traditional radio receivers and digital platforms combined to add 907,287 new listeners, bringing the total audience to approximately 32.21 million people.

  • In January and February, the radio industry in Mexico City was thriving, with nearly 11 million listeners, surpassing the same period in 2024.
  • However, March 2025 proved challenging for most stations, regardless of their transmission concept or legal status.
  • Overall, the capital’s radio audience increased by 2.91% in Q1 2025, according to INRA, the electronic media measurement company.

Segment-wise Analysis

Public radio and news/talk radio segments experienced the most varied audience reach during Q1 2025 compared to Q1 2024, particularly in March. This segment lost 1.65% of its listeners compared to the same period in 2024.

  • Public, social, and community radio (non-profit) had a difficult start in 2025, losing 18.01% of its audience compared to Q1 2024.
  • Some notable stations, like 88.9 Noticias and MVS Noticias, saw significant drops in listenership, while Radio Fórmula 103.3, Heraldo Radio, Radio Fórmula 104.1 FM, and W Radio 96.9 FM experienced growth.

Key Stations and Their Performance

Among the 15 most recognized public radio stations in Mexico City, 12 reported a decrease in audience reach during Q1 2025.
