Strengthening Paraguay’s Digital Infrastructure with 5G

Claro, part of the Mexican group América Móvil, has signed an agreement with Nokia to deploy the first 5G network for the operator in Paraguay. This comprehensive deal covers the initial implementation phase and includes sites across the country, such as Greater Asunción, Ciudad del Este, Encarnación, Coronel Oviedo, Pedro Juan Caballero, among others. A second phase is planned for 2026.

Benefits of the New 5G Network

The new 5G network will offer multiple benefits to consumers and business users, including faster download speeds for instant downloads, near-zero latency for smooth gaming and immersive experiences, increased stability, and greater capacity to connect numerous devices simultaneously.

5G will also enable the launch of new next-generation e-commerce, banking, education, and entertainment services. Furthermore, it will facilitate the deployment of new technologies for industrial transformation and digitalization, such as intelligent manufacturing and robotics, enhancing business productivity and agility.

Additionally, 5G will support the deployment of new technologies for the agricultural sector, including sensors, AI, Big Data, and robotics to achieve precision and sustainable farming. This will optimize water resources and boost productivity.

Quotes from Key Figures

Alfredo Alcaraz, General Director of Claro Paraguay, stated, “With this launch, Claro marks the beginning of a new era of connectivity for our clients and aims to transform various industries nationwide. The network offers faster, more secure, and reliable mobile experiences that will drive innovation and contribute to the country’s long-term competitiveness.”

Bruno Leite, Vice President of Mobile Networks at Nokia for Latin America, commented, “This will be one of the best 5G networks in Latin America, thanks to Nokia’s cutting-edge AirScale 5G solutions operating on a band with substantial spectrum capacity (200 MHz). 5G will be crucial for further improving connectivity in Paraguay and enabling new technologies that promote greater digitalization and productivity for both consumers and businesses. We appreciate Claro Paraguay’s trust in Nokia and look forward to collaborating on future projects.”

Nokia’s Role in the Project

To support these plans, Claro requested Nokia to deploy a future-ready network based on the Nokia AirScale 5G portfolio, an industry leader driven by the high-efficiency ReefShark System-on-Chip technology.

This deployment includes radio base stations, baseband units, and the latest generation of Massive MIMO radios offering extensive 5G capacity and coverage for rapid deployments. Nokia also implemented Interleaved Passive Active Antenna (IPAA+) to address the challenge of limited space for 5G antennas on towers and rooftops.

Nokia’s IPAA+ accelerates 5G deployment with its compact and modular design. The company also provided complementary services to optimize network performance.
