Introduction to Purina®’s Sustainability Initiative

Purina®, a leading brand in the pet food industry, has placed recycling at the heart of its environmental strategy. The company has taken concrete steps towards circular plastic use and waste reduction, encouraging public participation in sustainability efforts.

Reciclando con Purina® Initiative

Since 2021, the Reciclando con Purina® initiative has successfully collected more than 2.6 tons of pet food packaging materials for dogs and cats.

These collected materials have been transformed into 110 plastic sheets donated to animal shelters, where they are used to cover facilities and improve living conditions for rescued animals.

Nationwide Collection Network

Purina® has established a network of over 100 collection points across the country, enabling pet owners to drop off their empty packaging for recycling.

In Mexico City and Guadalajara, the company has partnered with BikeRecycling for home pickups and Ecolana to register packaging and earn “Ecolanitas,” virtual coins redeemable for sustainable products or experiences.

Packaging Redesign and Future Goals

One of Purina®’s most significant achievements is the redesign of its packaging. Currently, all dry food packages are recyclable, and the company continues to eliminate hard-to-recycle plastics in its wet food line.

By the second half of 2025, some Dog Chow® products will incorporate at least 20% certified recycled plastic by ISCC, an initiative promoting advanced recycling.
