Study Reveals Shifting Consumer Preferences in Mexico
According to the ‘Consumer Insights of the Second Quarter of 2025’ study, social supports and increased minimum wage are transforming the purchasing habits of Mexicans, driving a preference for premium products. The report, compiled by Worldpanel by Numerator México, highlights that this trend is predominantly observed among the middle strata of society, who have transitioned to higher market segments but continue consuming familiar brands.
Government Social Programs and Rising Wages
Patricia González, Client Service Director at Worldpanel by Numerator México, explained that approximately 41% of urban households, equivalent to 10 million homes, benefit from at least one government social program. Furthermore, around 27% of households receive support from two or more of the 16 social programs available nationwide.
Wages have been on the rise in recent years, with a 12% increase noted in 2025 alone. This has resulted in enhanced purchasing power for families.
“For the first time in history, we have 60 million employed individuals, with an unemployment rate at its historical low of 2.4% in 2024,” emphasized Patricia González.
González reiterated that households are currently spending more in specific categories, with higher expenditure and migrating towards premium brands to fulfill certain needs and indulgences.
