About Suburbia and El Puerto de Liverpool
Suburbia is a department store chain that has been rapidly expanding its physical presence in Mexico. It is part of El Puerto de Liverpool, a prominent retail company in the country. Ricardo Butrón, the Expansion Manager of El Puerto de Liverpool, has announced that Suburbia is actively searching for new retail spaces ranging from 2,000 to 4,000 square meters in various Mexican cities.
Recent Store Openings and Rebranding
This year, Suburbia has opened three new stores. The first was in Aguascalientes, followed by a store in Acapulco, Guerrero, and another in Tultitlán, Estado de Mexico. In the first quarter of 2024, Suburbia rebranded its South Quarries store as Liverpool.
Expansion Strategy and Objectives
Gonzalo Gallegos, the Finance Director of El Puerto de Liverpool, emphasized that their expansion strategy focuses on identifying and securing blank retail spaces. The primary goals are to attract new customers, optimize logistics for quicker delivery, and enhance customer proximity.

Store Performance and Growth
In the past three years, Suburbia has opened 30 stores in Mexico, bringing its total to 194 by the end of 2024. In 2024, eight stores were inaugurated; seven opened in 2023; and fifteen new locations were added in 2022.
In 2023, Suburbia generated net revenues of 23,708 million pesos, marking a 9.85% increase from the 21,582.06 million pesos earned in 2022.
At the consolidated level, Suburbia accounted for approximately 11% of El Puerto de Liverpool’s total revenues in 2024 and 2023.
Suburbia’s Role as a Retail Experience Hub
Suburbia stores serve not only as inventory spaces but also as customer experience centers. They offer personalized services, product interaction opportunities, and compliance centers.
