Toyota’s Positive Outlook Amidst Industry Slowdown
Contrary to the industry-wide slowdown that marked the first half of 2025, Toyota Motor Mexico asserts that the Mexican market remains stable to sustain growth in sales and close out 2025 with record-breaking figures.
Sales Performance and Targets
Guillermo Díaz, President of Toyota Motor Sales and Lexus of Mexico, highlighted a 3.7% increase in sales during the first half of the year compared to the previous year, placing half of the projected 60,000 units for this year.
Toyota aims to sell over 122,000 vehicles in the Mexican market by the end of 2025, with Gerardo Romero, Vice President of Operations for Toyota Motor Sales in Mexico, stating that more than 10,000 units are expected to be sold monthly. If interest rates drop further in the second half of the year, this target should be met.
Focus on Hybrid Electric Vehicles
Toyota’s strategy, centered around customer satisfaction, efficiency, and sustainable mobility, has solidified its position as a key player in Mexico’s automotive industry.
Díaz pointed out that one in three Toyota vehicles sold in Mexico are hybrid electric vehicles. In the first six months of 2025, Toyota has commercialized 21,866 HEV units.
With over 188,000 hybrid electric vehicles sold since Toyota’s arrival in Mexico, the company reaffirms its role as a crucial actor in transitioning to cleaner and more sustainable mobility.
Top-Selling Models
Toyota’s best-selling models in Mexico are the RAV4, Hilux, Avanza, Corolla, and Yaris Sedán.
Tariff Impact
Toyota Motor Mexico’s Director of Communications, Marisol Blanco, stated that tariffs have not yet impacted the company. As regulations remain undefined, no cost increases for vehicles in the US have been determined.
Toyota manufactures its Tacoma model, available with both combustion and hybrid engines, primarily for North America while adhering to origin rules. The impact of tariffs on steel and aluminum content in export auto parts remains unmeasured.
Monitoring Tariff Developments
Toyota emphasizes the need to monitor tariff developments daily, as the situation is dynamic and many definitions are still pending. These include technical aspects of implementation, export measurements, and regional content classification for auto parts.
