Valeria Moreno Advocates for Youth Involvement in Political and Economic Transformation

In the context of the “Mexico in Perspective: Economic Horizons” forum, Valeria Moreno, president of the Tecnológico de Monterrey (Tec de Monterrey) Campus Santa Fe chapter of Coparmex, emphasized the essential role young people must play in shaping Mexico’s political and economic transformation.

“Our first step is to engage in dialogue with those who lead the sectors so that they start considering us as part of the conversation; there are already many things being done, and our role now is to start making ourselves known in these types of forums,” Moreno stated.

Overcoming Resistance in Traditional Sectors

Moreno highlighted that, although there is openness towards new generations, resistance still exists in traditional sectors where leadership tends to be older and reluctant to engage in conversation. “Perhaps we don’t have the same experience as them, but we often bring a fresh perspective on what’s happening,” she explained, advocating for intergenerational collaboration that combines innovation and experience.

University Support for Students

From the university perspective, Tec de Monterrey promotes civic participation through student groups such as the Economics Student Society and LEAD (Leaders in Entrepreneurship and Academic Development). These collectives organize engaging and disruptive events to capture young interests and foster social commitment.

Moreno also stressed the importance of government officials and public servants visiting educational institutions to discuss youth concerns, needs, and visions.

Influence of Social Media on Young Decision-Makers

Moreno noted that social media is a primary source of information for young people, significantly influencing their decision-making processes as it serves as their main source of information.
