Introduction to the 2025 Intercensal Survey

The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) commenced the 2025 Intercensal Survey on Monday, ensuring that adequate security measures are in place for its field workers, especially in high-risk areas across Mexico.

Survey Details and Scope

According to INEGI President Graciela Márquez Colín, the 2025 Intercensal Survey will take place from October 6 to November 14, targeting approximately 7 million randomly selected households in various states throughout Mexico. This survey will visit one out of every five occupied dwellings in 2,478 municipalities, encompassing both urban and rural locations.

Márquez Colín emphasized the importance of this survey, stating that population and housing characteristics change gradually and continuously. As a result, it is challenging to measure the same population since people, their circumstances, and needs are constantly evolving. Therefore, it is essential to rediscover and recognize the diverse population through this census.

Objectives and Data Publication

The primary goal of the Intercensal Survey is to generate reliable estimates regarding population volume, composition, and distribution, as well as private housing across the entire national territory. The data collected from this survey will be published by September of the following year.

Security Protocols for Field Workers

When questioned about the safety of field workers in states with high criminal activity, INEGI President Graciela Márquez Colín confirmed that appropriate protocols and mechanisms are in place to ensure the security of the enumerators, not only in criminal situations but also during natural disasters.

Mauricio Rodríguez, INEGI’s General Director of Statistics, further clarified that enumerators never visit households accompanied by the National Guard, police, or any military personnel. Instead, all field workers will prominently display their INEGI identification badge, featuring their name and photo, along with the distinctive beige vest and hat. Additionally, a QR code on the badge can redirect individuals to the official INEGI website, allowing them to verify the enumerator’s identity.
