Overview and Key Player

The Mexican Business Confidence Index (IMCE) recovered by 2.20% in June, rising to 69.92 points after three consecutive months of decline, according to the Instituto Mexicano de Contadores Públicos de México (IMCP).

The IMCE is a crucial economic indicator developed by the IMCP, which gauges business leaders’ perception of Mexico’s business climate. It reflects the expectations and opinions of a representative group of certified public accountants regarding the current and future economic situation of companies.

Key Components of the IMCE

The IMCE comprises three main components:

  • Situación Actual: Measures confidence in the current business situation.
  • Situación Futura: Measures confidence for the next six months.
  • Variación de Inventarios: Measures confidence in inventory changes.

Situación Actual: A Positive Trend

The Situación Actual component increased by 0.43% in June, rising from 65.73 to 66.01 points. This improvement reflects a more optimistic view of the current business situation.

However, businesses have reduced their confidence in current sales (-0.09 points), despite an 8.51-point increase in confidence regarding inventory variations.

Situación Futura: An Encouraging Outlook

The Situación Futura component, which measures confidence for the next six months, advanced by 4.23% in June, reaching 74.8 points.

This positive outlook is driven by optimism regarding future sales (5.23 points), workforce growth (4.88 points), productivity-enhancing investments (1.58 points), and training initiatives (0.45 points).

Challenges Ahead

Despite the recovery, businesses still face significant challenges. Insecurity remains the primary obstacle to growth, with 65% of accountants identifying it as the main concern. Other challenges include limited access to financing (53%), corruption (49%), and unfair competition (43%).

Regional disparities exist, with the Northeast perceiving higher levels of insecurity and corruption. Meanwhile, the Central and Western zones consider insufficient financing as a major issue, while the Isthmus and Peninsular regions cite bureaucracy and public policies as their main concerns.

Annual Comparison

Compared to June 2024, the IMCE showed a slight decrease of -6.60%. This decline is attributed to a -6.54% drop in the Situación Actual and a -6.67% decrease in the Situación Futura.
