Background on Key Players and Relevance

Mifel, a financial group led by President and CEO Daniel Becker, has officially withdrawn from the process of acquiring assets from Vector Casa de Bolsa, one of the entities alleged by the U.S. Department of Treasury for involvement in money laundering operations.

Daniel Becker, a prominent figure in Mexico’s banking sector, has been at the helm of Mifel since its establishment. His leadership and strategic decisions have positioned Mifel as a significant player in the Mexican financial market. With this recent announcement, Becker’s decisions will impact Mifel’s future growth and partnerships.

Mifel’s Decision to Withdraw from Vector Acquisition

During an interview at the Foro Prosa 2025, Becker confirmed that although Mifel had explored the possibility of acquiring Vector, they ultimately decided against it due to the lack of agreement.

“Everyone knows Vector for unfortunate reasons, but we couldn’t reach an agreement, and they opted for a different sale than what we had planned. In the end, we decided not to participate,” Becker explained.

He further emphasized, “We are definitely out of the process now.”

Exploration of CIBanco and Intercam Opportunities

Despite exiting the Vector acquisition process, Becker mentioned that Mifel is currently evaluating potential business acquisitions from CIBanco and Intercam, the other two entities recently flagged by the U.S. Department of Treasury.

“Yes, we are looking at all the institutions that need to sell assets,” Becker stated. “However, it must align with Mifel’s business model.”

He added, “We don’t want to start credit circuits where we lack experience. But certainly, there will still be assets that banks need to divest, and we are keeping an eye on those opportunities.”

Recent Acquisitions by Other Banks

Almost three months after the U.S. Department of Treasury’s allegations against CIBanco and Intercam, other banks have made significant moves in acquiring parts of these entities’ businesses.

  • Multiva: Acquired the entire fiduciary business of CIBanco, one of its main arms.
  • Kapital Bank: Took over the banking, brokerage, and investment fund businesses of Intercam.
  • BanCoppel: Reached an agreement to acquire CIBanco’s automotive credit portfolio.
