Who is MTU and Why is it Relevant?

MTU, or Monto Transaccional del Usuario (User Transaction Amount), is a new security feature introduced by banks to safeguard digital finances. Starting October 1, 2023, all mobile and online banking users in the country will be required to set up this configurable limit on their daily, weekly, or monthly transactions.

What is MTU?

MTU is a customizable limit that allows users to determine the maximum amount of money they can transfer via their mobile, computer, or banking app. This includes operations such as SPEI, CoDi, service payments, card transactions, and more.

What Happens if You Don’t Set Up MTU?

If you fail to activate your MTU by September 30, 2023, the bank will automatically assign a limit of 1,500 UDIS, equivalent to approximately 12,800 Mexican pesos.

Future Obligations

Starting January 1, 2026, having a configured MTU will be mandatory. If you don’t set one up, the bank will impose a limit based on your transaction history.

How Does MTU Protect You?

Once you activate your MTU, any transaction exceeding the limit you’ve set will either be automatically blocked or require an additional authentication factor, such as an SMS, notification, signature, or others, before completion.
