Introduction

As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly integrated into recruitment and talent selection processes, a study suggests that human involvement remains essential for identifying genuine talent.

AI in Recruitment: The Current Landscape

According to the study “Artificial Intelligence in Job Seeking” by Computrabajo, 80% of Mexican companies use AI for recruitment processes, including selection, evaluation, automation, onboarding, data analysis of employees, or candidate experience.

Trust in AI-driven Recruitment

Despite the growing use of AI, there is a level of distrust among job candidates. While 44% acknowledge the improved experience, they worry about unfair decisions due to potential biases and the lack of human contact.

Alejandra Martínez, responsible for Labor Market Studies at Computrabajo, emphasizes that the reliability of candidates in AI usage depends on human judgment within the selection process. Another 39% fear automatic rejection without proper CV analysis or human review.

Candidates believe that trust in AI depends on the position or process stage (34%), with only 5% expressing full confidence.

The concerns stem from the lack of transparency regarding how companies use AI in their selection processes. Forty-seven percent of study participants highlighted the importance of protecting personal data and informing how technology is used.

Transparency and Human Involvement

Fifty-seven percent of recruiters believe that transparency in the process is crucial to build candidate trust, suggesting human presence from start to finish. Six out of ten recommend complementing AI with human review.

“Supervising algorithms to detect biases is essential for process reliability, and this supervision must be human,” Martínez asserts. “Without a dedicated human team, AI remains just a tool without soul,” she adds.

AI in Talent Selection

AI optimizes selection steps, but both candidates and recruiters agree that the debate isn’t about using or not using technology, but how to apply it correctly.

Forty-eight percent prioritize receiving clear feedback during application, indicating a preference for companies detailing the selection process and AI involvement.

Thirty-nine percent believe organizations should clearly explain AI usage and its role in the process, while 30% stress the importance of frequent algorithm reviews to avoid biases or errors.

“Our corporate responsibility is ensuring continuous training on responsible AI mechanism usage,” Martínez concludes, emphasizing the need for human involvement in recruitment for functionality and effectiveness.

AI’s Role in Enhancing Human Decisions

AI facilitates the recruitment process through rapid data analysis, enabling human decisions to achieve greater effectiveness.
