Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping various job functions, and Human Resources (HR) is no exception. Experts believe that this technology presents an opportunity for enhancing talent management, particularly for a more strategic approach.
AI as an Enabler, Not a Replacement
According to Andrés Gómez, country manager of Buk México, “AI is not replacing the HR role; it’s expanding it. Today, HR departments responsible for attracting and nurturing talent within organizations combine data, prediction, and organizational design like never before. Companies that understand and integrate these trends not only boost productivity but also build fairer, more transparent, and future-ready cultures.”
Marcela Velasco, another expert, echoes this sentiment: “Instead of being mere process executives, HR professionals are becoming ‘architects of the future of work,’ capable of anticipating needs, identifying opportunities, and building more human, inclusive, and competitive organizational cultures in a constantly evolving business world.”
What does HR need to leverage AI?
One of the main bottlenecks is investment. According to the IDC and Cegid’s “Human Resources Maturity Index 2025,” only 43% of talent management executives anticipate a larger budget next year, and six out of ten of those will see an increase of less than 10%.
Research shows that as the digital maturity of an organization increases, HR receives a better budget. “These investments help ensure the future of both the HR department and the business as a whole, as well as address the challenge of attracting and retaining top talent in a highly competitive market,” it highlights.
Marcela Velasco from T-Systems México emphasizes that economic investment is only part of the equation. HR professionals need to develop new skills to fully utilize AI’s potential.
“The growing automation and the arrival of AI will inevitably bring about a profound transformation in the competencies organizations need to thrive. In this scenario, it’s crucial for HR departments to lead the construction of spaces for ‘continuous learning and constant skill updates,'” she opines.
