Introduction to the Challenges Facing HR Professionals
“We are in a tsunami of changes,” says Mauricio Reynoso, General Director of the Mexican Association for Human Resources Management (Amedirh). The agenda is saturated with labor reforms, the disruption of artificial intelligence, and shifts in workers’ expectations—a perfect storm demanding the transformation of talent management.
The Role of Human Resources in Navigating Change
Human Resources is helping navigate labor reforms and focusing on employee well-being, a significant topic that falls under HR as the guardian of wellness practices. The urgency to adapt structures, talent attraction, and value proposition adjustments are among the challenges, Reynoso asserts in an interview with El Economista.
Growing Importance of HR Professionals
Since 2018, Mexico celebrates the National Executive of Human Resources Day every second Wednesday of September to recognize their importance in improving the work environment. According to Data México, over 200,000 people are engaged in this activity, with demand growing since 2021.
Despite their crucial role in businesses, Mauricio Reynoso believes many organizations still prioritize transactional HR over strategic aspects. He explains, “Basic things that consume much time for talent managers. The challenge is vast, and most are in basic stages.”
HR’s Role in Executive Meetings
The IDC and Cegid Human Resources Maturity Index for 2025 reveals that only 28% of talent management executives are part of high-level teams, 38% occasionally attend meetings, and 34% are not considered. Reynoso emphasizes that the participation of Capital Human leaders in company boards signifies advanced organizations.
“In leading companies, the HR leader participates in business meetings, talent indicators are reviewed in business agendas, strategic plans include a specific chapter on talent management, and crucially, when the general director speaks about the importance of people in the organization—these are signs that someone in HR is doing their job well,” he affirms.
Risks of Weak HR Departments
Reynoso warns that not having a strong HR department impacts corporate finances. “When the HR team aligns with business strategy, there’s greater employee commitment, higher loyalty, job satisfaction, and reduced unnecessary costs,” he explains.
He stresses that the HR function should be viewed as “a coach for leaders, accompanying them in managing people. HR doesn’t build culture; it’s constructed by leaders through their behaviors, consistency, values, and communication.”
Amedirh Congress 2025
This year, Amedirh will host its 60th International Congress on Human Resources, addressing the primary challenges of HR functions—from digitalization to regulatory changes.
On October 22-23, various experts will share success stories to support Capital Human teams in transforming within a constantly changing environment.
“The backbone is understanding the stories that define success and position an HR area as a significant partner to leaders and what we should do to keep building more success stories,” Reynoso shares.
