Beijing. The diplomatic relationship between Mexico and China continues to strengthen, with a notable boost since the signing of the Integral Strategic Partnership in 2013. In this context, Tang Lingyun, Deputy Director General of the Department of Latin America and the Caribbean of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the achievements in bilateral exchanges and emphasized Mexico’s growing role in emerging markets, as well as its increasing influence in Latin America.
Tang Lingyun’s Perspective on Sino-Mexican Relations
Lingyun stated during a press conference on China’s policies towards Latin America and the Caribbean that China has always viewed Sino-Mexican relations from a long-term strategic perspective and is willing to collaborate with Mexico to elevate this integral strategic partnership to a new level.

Moreover, Chinese investment in Mexico has shown significant growth. By the end of 2024, China’s direct investment in Mexico exceeded $2.7 billion, solidifying its position as a key driver in strategic development areas.
Chinese Involvement in Mexican Infrastructure Projects
Lingyun reminded that Chinese companies have participated in significant infrastructure projects, such as the first phase of the Tren Maya and the modernization of Line 1 of Mexico City’s Metro.
Future Cooperation
“We believe that integrating the Belt and Road Initiative with Mexico’s national development strategy will further enrich the strategic partnership between both countries and inject new momentum into our bilateral cooperation,” Lingyun concluded.
Regional Cooperation
On the other hand, Lingyun defended that cooperation with Latin American and Caribbean countries under the Belt and Road Initiative has yielded results, evidenced by the development of over 200 infrastructure projects.
China’s Commitment to Regional Partnerships
Earlier, Ambassador and Director General of the Department of Latin America and the Caribbean of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zhang Run, emphasized that despite changing international circumstances, China will remain a partner and friend to Latin American and Caribbean countries.
Zhang Run also acknowledged the signing of five regional countries to create the International Mediation Organization (IOmed), headquartered in Hong Kong, an initiative promoted by China. He also recognized Brazil and other countries’ support for promoting the end of the war in Ukraine.
