U.S. Secretary of State to Travel with Cabinet Members
Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, announced his intention to visit Mexico in the coming weeks alongside other members of President Donald Trump’s cabinet. The purpose of this trip is to strengthen cooperation in security and commerce between the two nations.
Positive Cooperation with Mexico, More Work Needed on Migration
During a hearing with the U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, Rubio acknowledged the positive collaboration with Mexico’s government in security matters. However, he emphasized that there is still room for improvement regarding migration issues.
“They have increased their cooperation in security matters in very productive ways. In the coming weeks, I intend to travel to Mexico alongside other cabinet members to solidify some of these areas of cooperation,” Rubio stated.
Condemns Assassination of Clara Brugada’s Aides
Rubio expressed his concern over the recent assassinations in Mexico City, including those linked to Clara Brugada, the head of government. The victims included her personal secretary and a collaborator, as well as one of her advisors.
“I learned last night that two more individuals were killed in Mexico City, connected to the head of government. Political violence there is real. They are interested in pursuing these cartels, and we want to assist by providing them with resources and information,” Rubio addressed the committee.
In addition, Rubio highlighted Mexico’s enhanced collaboration in extraditing individuals sought by U.S. authorities.
“We have fruitful areas of cooperation. There is still work to be done on migration, but they are cooperating,” Rubio explained.
