A Celebration of 15 Years of Musical History

The first day of Corona Capital 2025 marked 15 years of the festival’s rich musical history at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, featuring a powerful dose of alternative rock from the ’90s, indie rock from the 2000s, and more.

Foo Fighters Lead the First Day

Foo Fighters, led by Dave Grohl, returned to Corona Capital to celebrate 30 years of their band’s history and headline the first day of the 2025 edition. The Corona Capital festival commemorates 15 years of musical history with a lineup balancing established artists and newer acts for younger audiences.

Following the loss of their drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2022, Foo Fighters continued their Mexico City tour with guitarists Chris Shiflett, Pat Smear, bassist Nate Mendel, keyboardist Rami Jaffee, and Ilan Rubin on drums. Rubin replaced Josh Freese this year, filling the spot previously held by Taylor Hawkins and showcasing his skills behind the drums.

The band performed a setlist spanning their discography from their 1995 self-titled album to their 2021 release, Medicine at Midnight. They played classic tracks like “Hey, Johnny Park!” and paid tribute to Mötorhead with a rendition of “Ace of Spades” mixed with “No Son of Mine.”

Queens of the Stone Age Fulfill a Debt to Mexican Fans

Queens of the Stone Age fulfilled a debt to Mexican fans after canceling their 2024 show. Fronted by Josh Homme, the band delivered a set of guitar riffs and desert stoner rock that characterizes their sound, immersing the audience in a sea of guitar riffs.

Garbage Delivers a Masterclass in Minimalist Rock

Garbage, led by Shirley Manson with producers Butch Vig, Duke Erikson, Steve Marker, and bassist Nicole Fiorentino, gave what may be one of their final performances. The band has expressed frustration with the increasingly difficult landscape for touring, even for established acts like Garbage.

Their setlist included hits such as “I Think I’m Paranoid,” “When I Grow Up,” “Cherry Lips (Go Baby Go!),” “Stupid Girl,” and “Push It,” reminding the audience of their presence on radio airwaves for three decades. However, their performance was somewhat brief, leaving fans wanting more from a band like Garbage.

Indie Rock of the 2000s

The festival also took a trip back to the indie rock of the 2000s, welcoming Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs, and Jet to revisit the era when guitars and riffs once again captured listeners’ ears.

Day One Lineup

The day’s lineup included Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Franz Ferdinant, Garbage, Polo & Pan, 4 Non Blondes, ALuna, Anna of the North, Bad Bad Hats, Böa, Circa Waves, Debby Friday, Hollow Coves, Jet, Kaiser Chiefs, Leisure, Lucy Dacus, Lucy Rose, Nilüfer Yanya, Sarah Kinsley, Shermanology, Sub Urban, Tamino, and Waxahatchee.

Waxahatchee canceled their last-minute performance and was replaced by Whitney.

Day Two Preview

The second day of Corona Capital features strong performances from Chappell Roan, OMD, Vampire Weekend, and the highly anticipated return of Alabama Shakes.
