Celebrating 15 Years of Musical History

The first day of Corona Capital 2025 commemorated 15 years of the festival’s rich musical history at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, delivering a powerful dose of alternative rock from the ’90s, indie rock from the 2000s, and more.

Foo Fighters Take the Stage

The legendary rock band, Foo Fighters, led by Dave Grohl, returned to Corona Capital to celebrate 30 years of their musical journey and headline the first day of the 2025 edition. The festival, now in its 15th year, aims to balance established artists with newer acts for a diverse lineup appealing to both seasoned attendees and younger generations.

Following the loss of their beloved drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2022, Foo Fighters took the stage in Mexico City with guitarists Chris Shiflett, Pat Smear, bassist Nate Mendel, keyboardist Rami Jaffee, and Ilan Rubin on drums, who replaced Josh Freese to honor Hawkins’ legacy.

The band performed a setlist spanning their discography from their 1995 self-titled album to their 2021 release, Medicine at Midnight. They played classic tracks like “Hey, Johnny Park!” and paid tribute to Mötorhead with a rendition of “Ace of Spades” intertwined with “No Son of Mine.”

Queens of the Stone Age Fulfill a Long-Awaited Mexican Performance

Queens of the Stone Age, led by Josh Homme, finally made up for their 2024 cancellation with a captivating performance. The band’s signature guitar riffs and desert stoner rock immersed the audience in a sea of sound, showcasing Homme’s seasoned stage presence and rockstar charisma.

Their setlist included “The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret,” “I Sat By The Ocean,” “Little Sister,” “No One Knows,” and a memorable rendition of “I Wanna Make it Chu” with a touch of the Rolling Stones’ “Miss You.”

Garbage Delivers a Stripped-Down Performance

Shirley Manson and her band, Garbage, delivered a masterclass in minimalist rock. With producers Butch Vig, Duke Erikson, Steve Marker, and bassist Nicole Fiorentino, the band performed what may have been one of their final shows, highlighting the challenges bands face in touring even with their stature.

Their hits, such as “I Think I’m Paranoid,” “When I Grow Up,” “Cherry Lips (Go Baby Go!),” “Stupid Girl,” and “Push It,” reminded the audience of their three-decade presence on radio airwaves. Although their set was brief, fans craved more from this influential band.

Indie Rock of the 2000s

The festival also took a trip down memory lane to the indie rock of the 2000s, welcoming Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs, and Jet. These bands brought back the guitar-driven sounds that once dominated the airwaves.

Day One Lineup

The day’s lineup included Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Franz Ferdinant, Garbage, Polo & Pan, 4 Non Blondes, ALuna, Anna of the North, Bad Bad Hats, Böa, Circa Waves, Debby Friday, Hollow Coves, Jet, Kaiser Chiefs, Leisure, Lucy Dacus, Lucy Rose, Nilüfer Yanya, Sarah Kinsley, Shermanology, Sub Urban, Tamino, and Waxahatchee (who were replaced by Whitney due to last-minute cancellation).
