Mexico’s Music Festivals Adopt Sustainable Strategies

The entertainment industry is increasingly demonstrating that fun and environmental responsibility can coexist. More events and festivals in Mexico are implementing sustainable strategies to reduce their ecological footprint and create a positive impact on the community. This shift not only protects the planet but also redefines how attendees experience the spectacle.

Corona Capital’s Sustainability Efforts

Every year, over a ton of organic waste generated at the Corona Capital music festival is transformed into compost, preventing the emission of 11 tons of CO₂. This achievement was made in the previous edition, showcasing that music and sustainability can coexist.

Partnerships for Environmental Action

Through various partnerships with environmental organizations, the event takes concrete actions to benefit the environment. By 2025, Corona Capital aims to renew its ISO 20121 certification and strengthen alignment with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, in line with OCESA’s strategy.

A Festival with Purpose

This musical gathering, which attracts more than 100,000 people daily, could easily turn waste management into a monumental problem. However, Corona Capital is changing that narrative with its Waste Management System, separating organic and inorganic waste using isolation points, promoting compostable packaging, and eliminating single-use plastics.

  • Organic waste is converted into compost through collaboration with Hagamos Composta.
  • Recyclable materials (glass, PET, cans, and decorations) are reintegrated into new production cycles.
  • Unconsumed food is donated to the Alimento Para Todos I.A.P organization.

Regarding mobility, the festival promotes Ticket2Ride, a collective transportation system operated by Ticketmaster. Departure points include Santa Fe, Perisur, Parque España, and Interlomas. Choosing public transport over personal vehicles significantly reduces the festival’s carbon footprint and alleviates traffic in the area.

Sustainability with a Human Face

In this edition, Corona Capital reinforces its commitment to accessibility and emotional well-being for attendees by providing platforms for people with disabilities, inclusive restrooms, and specialized hosts for those with specific needs.

  • Punto Violeta, in collaboration with Casa Gaviota, offers guidance and support against gender-based violence.
  • The Mindfulness Oasis, in partnership with Mindsurf, promotes self-care and mental health.

Corona Capital sets a new benchmark for massive festivals in Mexico, proving that fun, social impact, and sustainability can coexist without compromising the audience’s experience.
