About the UNAM Megaofrenda

If you’re still looking for plans on October 31, consider visiting the traditional UNAM Megaofrenda, which this year carries the theme “Huellas de nuestra historia: Migraciones, exilios, refugio y desplazamientos” (Footprints of our history: Migrations, exiles, refugee, and displacement).

This is the 28th edition of the event, inviting deep reflection on human mobility. Migration, exiles, and refugee experiences become central themes to narrate not only the memory of those who left but also the building of new communities. The UNAM aims to highlight these phenomena as part of Mexico’s history and identity.

Megaofrenda Details

The installation will be located at the explanada of Museo Universum in Ciudad Universitaria (Circuito Cultural de Ciudad Universitaria S/N, Coyoacán, CDMX) and will be open to the public from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM on October 31, November 1, and 2, 2025.

During your visit, you’ll encounter multiple altars constructed by faculties, schools, and institutes. These incorporate traditional Day of the Dead elements like cempasúchil flowers, papel picado, and contemporary representations of migratory routes, exile, and hospitality.

University Community Involvement

The university community was invited to participate in literary calavera, short story, and cortometraje contests addressing migration and refugee themes. First-place winners can earn up to 4,500 pesos.

You can still participate in the short story and cortometraje contests, as the submission deadline has been extended until November 4 at 11:59 PM.
