Overview of the Year’s Highlights
The renowned Franz Mayer Museum in the heart of Mexico City is set to commemorate its 40th anniversary with a diverse and engaging program of exhibitions and events throughout 2026. The museum, known for its wide-ranging and extensive audience, has planned an ambitious schedule of displays and activities, along with the opening of new spaces.
Key Exhibitions
- Football: Designing a Passion – Curated by Kevin Moore, an expert in sports heritage and football history and founder of the National Football Museum in England, this exhibition will explore the significance of design in global sports events. It will cover nine World Cup tournaments held in the Americas: Uruguay 1930, Brazil 1950, Chile 1962, Mexico 1970, Argentina 1978, Mexico 1986, USA 1994, Brazil 2014, and the upcoming tournament. The exhibition will delve into aspects such as stadium architecture, signage, publications, attire, and graphic design associated with each tournament. Additionally, it will showcase memorabilia, photographs, and objects used by legendary footballers like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Hugo Sánchez, Pelé, and Diego Armando Maradona.
- Ali Kazma – Featuring the multimedia works of Turkish artist Ali Kazma, this exhibition is closely tied to writing. Through his multimedia creations, Kazma allows the audience to delve into the most sacred corners of a writer’s world, including manuscripts and archives of authors like Alberto Mangel and Orhan Pamuk.
- IA: Beyond the Human – Originating from London’s Barbican Centre, this exhibition will explore human interaction with artificial intelligence and its transformative impact on creative processes in contemporary art, design, and culture.
New Spaces at Franz Mayer Museum
The museum will also unveil new spaces, including the Design Processes Room and the Living Design Library. These areas will host the exhibition “Mockups before Fuckups. Maquetas, prototipos y el oficio del diseño,” which will reflect on the relevance of design not only through its outcomes but also through its methods and processes, where mistakes are seen as steps towards success.
