Introduction

Netflix is set to release Guillermo del Toro’s highly anticipated adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic novel, Frankenstein, on October 23, with streaming scheduled for November 7. This week, the platform unveiled the first posters for the film, confirming a long-cherished project by the Tapatío director.

Del Toro’s Lifelong Dream

During the Netflix Tudum 2025: The Live Event, del Toro revealed, “I have dreamt of making this film since I was a child and have actively pursued it for 25 years.” He confessed that his fascination with the character dates back to his childhood, with Boris Karloff’s 1931 monster leaving a lasting impression.

Exploring Humanity and Creation

Del Toro’s film aims to delve into the intricate relationship between creator and creation, a recurring theme in his filmography. “The relationship between humanity and monsters, creator and creation, parent and child, has consumed my stories time and again,” explained the filmmaker.

  • The trailer, released in June, hints at elements reminiscent of del Toro’s previous works, such as a decaying staircase with candelabras similar to The Shining and red angelic figures echoing Hellboy II: The Golden Army and Pinocchio.

A Star-Studded Cast for a Classic Tale

The film boasts an esteemed cast, led by Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant yet arrogant scientist who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment. Jacob Elordi portrays the creature, while Mia Goth plays Elizabeth Lavenza, Victor’s fiancée.

  • Isaac expressed his admiration for the project, calling playing Victor “the experience of a lifetime.” He praised the team’s passion, love, and dedication evident in every frame.
  • Goth, a self-proclaimed fan of the novel, eagerly anticipated being part of the project. Elordi, who plays the creature, hailed del Toro as “a genius in real life” and expressed immense gratitude for being part of the film, proud of the team’s accomplishments.

Complete cast: Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, David Bradley, Lars Mikkelsen, Christian Convery, with Charles Dance and Christoph Waltz.
