Collaborative Effort to Boost Respiratory Disease Prevention

The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) is organizing a massive vaccination campaign in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), the Institute for Social Security and Services of State Workers (ISSSTE), and Pemex. This initiative aims to strengthen prevention against winter respiratory diseases and infectious illnesses.

Vaccination Schedule

The campaign will take place from November 10 to 14 at the UNAM Megacenter for Vaccination, located in the Estadio Olímpico Universitario, Parking 3, Gate G. Operating hours are from 9:00 to 15:00.

  • Open to the entire population, regardless of university affiliation.

Required Documents and Eligibility

While it is recommended to bring the National Health Card, it is not a requirement for receiving vaccines.

Available Vaccines and Target Populations

Influenza

Targeted at individuals six months of age and older.

  • Priority groups: children, the elderly (60+), individuals with chronic diseases (diabetes, obesity, asthma, heart conditions, or immunosuppression), and healthcare personnel.
  • Dose: annual
  • Restrictions: postpone vaccination if experiencing high fever or severe allergy to egg proteins.

COVID-19

Available to the general public, including those six months and older.

  • Recommendation: annual booster for high-risk groups (elderly, medical personnel, or individuals with chronic diseases).
  • Dose: annual booster

Restrictions: postpone vaccination if experiencing active COVID-19 infection or fever over 38°C.

Pneumococcus

Targeted at children under five (three-dose basic scheme) and adults over 60 or those with chronic diseases (cardiac, respiratory, renal, or diabetes).

  • Dose: based on age and medical history
  • Restrictions: avoid vaccination during acute illness or if there’s a history of severe allergy to previous doses.

Measles (Rubeola)

Administered to children aged 12 and 18 months through the triple viral (measles, rubella, and mumps) vaccine. It can also be given as a “zero dose” to those over six months and as a booster for adolescents and adults up to 49.

  • Restrictions: not administered to pregnant women, those under six months, or individuals with severe immunosuppression. Those who have received blood transfusions or immunoglobulins should wait for the recommended medical intervals before vaccination.

General Recommendations

Wear comfortable clothing and be prepared for waiting time.

  • Bring the National Health Card if you have it.
  • Avoid vaccination if experiencing respiratory symptoms or fever.

Note: Pregnant women should consult healthcare personnel for vaccines appropriate to their gestational stage.
