Sector Concerned Over Judicial Reform and “Accordion” Judges
Sectoral groups linked to the 32-year-old trade agreement between Mexico and the United States express worry that the ongoing judicial reform and the appointment of “accordion” judges create an atmosphere of uncertainty.
However, by 2026, major financial funds and the interests they represent seem to hold a different view, announcing investments that will undoubtedly bolster Mexico’s development.
Pragmatic perhaps, these entities may not be concerned about executive control over the judicial branch or the supposed weakening of it, as per philosopher Savater, according to Julio Patán. For any grievances, they would only have the Presidency as an interlocutor.
Pope’s Plea to Mexican Youth
During a mass dedicated to the Virgin of Guadalupe, celebrated by Pope León XIV at St. Peter’s Basilica, he requested the Virgin’s protection for young people against addictions, violence, and living without a clear purpose.
In the mass conducted in Spanish, English, and Portuguese, the Pontiff implored the Virgin to free young people from the risks of organized crime and lives marked by despair.
He also urged those in public positions to ensure that authority serves, not dominates, and respects human dignity at all stages.
Continued Offensive Against UNAM
The offensive against the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) continues, with morenist groups backed by the power backing strikes in preparatory schools and faculties on the university campus.
Two months have passed since the strike began in the Faculty of Architecture following a student’s suicide at the Copilco Metro station, allegedly due to depression caused by studies.
The rectorate has held various meetings to address the issue, but a recent meeting was canceled because striking groups made dialogue impossible by refusing to listen to differing viewpoints.
