Peña Verde’s Stock Surges on Major Shareholder Purchase

Peña Verde, a controlling shareholder of Mexican insurance companies Reaseguradora Patria and General de Seguros, reported that its CEO Manuel Santiago Escobedo Conover acquired over 54 million shares of the company. This acquisition resulted in Escobedo Conover owning an 11.33% stake in Peña Verde, with undisclosed economic details of the operation.

The purchase caused Peña Verde’s stock on the Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV) to rise by 26.72%, reaching a value of 7.92 pesos, its highest level since June 2, 2022, when it closed at 9.70 pesos.

SpartanNash to be Acquired by C&S Wholesale Grocers

On Monday, SpartanNash’s stock surged intraday following the announcement that the food distributor would be acquired by C&S Wholesale Grocers for $1.77 billion, including debt.

C&S will pay $26.90 per ordinary share in cash, representing a premium of approximately 53% over SpartanNash’s closing stock price on Friday, according to a joint statement.

The transaction, subject to regulatory and SpartanNash shareholder approval, is expected to close by the end of 2025. The two companies, serving supermarkets and independent retailers, will combine to operate nearly 60 distribution centers in the United States and serve around 10,000 independent retail outlets.

Microsoft Launches Mu, a Small-Scale, Task-Specific Language Model

Microsoft, a software creator, announced the launch of Mu, a small-scale, task-specific language model tailored for individual devices and tasks. Mu powers the recently integrated AI intelligence assistant in Windows’ settings for automating tasks.

The encoder-decoder language model, available to Windows Insider users on the Development Channel with PC Copilot+, is downloaded onto the neural processing unit and responds to over 100 tokens per second, analyzing natural language queries to execute Windows configuration function calls, according to the company.

Mu addresses NPU limitations and was trained using A100 graphics processing units in Azure Machine Learning through phases, as per Microsoft.

Monex Adds Asur to Favorite Issuers on BMV

Monex Casa de Bolsa, a financial institution, included Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (Asur), an airport operator in Mexico, Colombia, and Puerto Rico, notably Cancún, in its sample of favorite issuers on the BMV.

Monex maintains other issuers such as FEMSA, Walmart de Mexico and Centroamérica, and Fibra Prologis while selecting from the 66 most significant companies in the national stock market based on potential performance, individual investment recommendations, and 2025 operational performance expectations.
