Introduction

The Mexican Navy (Semar) is actively engaged in promoting tourism across the country. They are now collaborating with various entities to support and complement the daily work of state tourism authorities.

Navy’s Involvement in Tourism

Historically, the Navy was not involved in the tourism sector. However, under the administration of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, they have entered the tourism scene with full force.

Asipona Puerto Vallarta’s Culinary Corridor Project

A team of experts from the Administration of the National Port System (Asipona) in Puerto Vallarta is working diligently to launch, tentatively in October, a process for bidding on an innovative culinary corridor and beach club. The estimated investment for this project is 50 million pesos.

Market Study and Project Viability

The project stems from a market study that aimed to identify business lines suitable for development within the port premises and attract more tourists. The study determined that a gastronomic product could satisfy the needs of both domestic and international visitors.

Project Details

The project involves designing, building, equipping, operating, and maintaining five restaurants offering Mexican cuisine. The land area is 11,301 square meters and is located within the port premises, with waterfront access. The project also includes a beach club service, utilizing the sandy area for camastres, tables, chairs, and a pool where visitors can enjoy food and beverages.

Private Sector Enthusiasm

The private sector is excited about the project and is actively seeking ways to generate benefits in their locality. The bidding process has already attracted interest from various companies eager to showcase their local gastronomy.

Support from Jalisco’s Tourism Secretary

Michelle Fridman, the Secretary of Tourism for Jalisco, is expected to support this project alongside Governor Pablo Lemus. Both officials aim to leave a significant mark on the tourism sector.

Current Tourism Trends in Puerto Vallarta

In the first four months of 2025, Asipona Puerto Vallarta received 76 cruise ships, five fewer than the same period last year. These arrivals brought 237,180 passengers, a -0.5% decrease compared to the previous year. Despite these numbers, there is an urgent need for new infrastructure and tourism products.

National Beach Cleaning and Conservation Strategy

Asipona Puerto Vallarta is one of the ports selected to kickstart the National Strategy for Beach Cleaning and Coastal Conservation in Mexico (2025-2030), led by President Claudia Sheinbaum. This initiative will be launched on World Environment Day, celebrated on June 5.

Gloria Guevara’s ONU Turismo Candidacy

Although Gloria Guevara will not assume the position of General Secretary at ONU Turismo, her extensive experience garnered significant support from the Mexican government before the voting process. This collaboration between Guevara and Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodríguez signifies a promising partnership for Mexico’s tourism sector.
