Introduction
Dear fellow citizens of Mexico,
I write to you from the heart of a nation that resists. From cities that bury their dead daily but never their dignity. From a country whose only “sin” is the desire to live in freedom.
The Russian Assault on Ukraine
Russian bombs continue to fall on hospitals, homes, and kindergartens. Putin cannot defeat the Ukrainian army on the battlefield, so he targets civilians: children, women, and the elderly. He launches missiles at cities and towns, attempting to break the will of the people through terror. This is precisely what this supposed Russian leader is.
The Role of International Silence
Moscow tries to sow terror, extinguish hope, and break us. But they will not succeed because the Ukrainian people will not surrender.
Today, beyond our geographical differences, we are united by our moral responsibility towards the civilian population suffering barbarity in Ukraine.
Indifference is not neutrality; it’s complicity. Those who remain silent about these atrocities allow Putin to continue sowing destruction. Worse than the weapons is the international silence. And Mexico, with its humanist history and fight for peace, cannot remain detached.
Historical Context and Call to Action
This horror is not new to humanity. We know how it begins: with silence. Looking away, thinking it’s a distant problem. But each building destroyed and every mother crying over her child beneath the rubble is an urgent call to global consciousness.
War criminal Vladimir Putin and his circle of collaborators will be held accountable. By history and courts.
Do not doubt: justice will come. But every minute of silence prolongs the impunity of the aggressor.
What Mexico Can Do
As Oksana Dramaretska, the Ukrainian Ambassador to Mexico, implores:
- Speak about Ukraine. Do not allow silence to cover our tragedy.
- Demand from your representatives that they tell the truth: this is state-sponsored terror.
- Share our stories, losses, and struggle.
- Reject the Kremlin’s lies that aim to divide, confuse, and silence.
Mexico has been a beacon of dignity in many historical moments. Today, your voice can save lives, strengthen justice, and bring hope. Do not let history remember you among those who looked away or ignored the situation. This is not a distant issue; it’s a warning of what could happen if the world allows an imperialist dictatorship to trample international law.
The time to act is now: for Ukraine, for peace, for humanity, and the entire world.
