Palacio’s Inquiry into the Consejo General
There might be an answer to Palacio’s concern that the Consejo General seemed to receive his message without stirring the prickly original tribes of Morena. It could be that they spoke about what ought to be, without considering how the change in political regime made Morena nearly hegemonic.
Palacio might convene the Consejo General next June, but in the meantime, one assumes they’ll ponder over disparaging remarks: “During López Obrador’s six-year term, Morena was the ‘oiled transmission belt’ of presidential designs, and now the presidential word is just one among many.”
Health Sector’s Use of Past Strategies
The British statesman Harold MacMillan once suggested using the past as a springboard, not a sofa. This advice holds true for health sector officials facing supply and negotiation challenges with pharmaceutical companies. They’ve started employing a narrative similar to seven years ago.
While no one doubts the arguments of Anticorrupción y Buen Gobierno head, Raquel Buenrostro, those in Palacio who now speak of a “pharmaceutical mafia” should explain their actions during the previous six-year term.
Health sector authorities, obligated to resolve medication and supply chain issues, would do well to heed Baruch Spinoza’s advice: “If you wish to avoid repeating the past, study it.”
The Relevance of Ideas in a Novel-like Conclave
As the Conclave begins to elect the successor of Pope Francisco, we’ve witnessed a miraculous multiplication of vaticanists and Iglesia Católica experts. As a believer, I find Morris West’s 1963 written cardinal dialogue in “The Sandal Maker” more realistic than the current vaticanist discourse.
In “The Sandal Maker,” two cardinals debate the desired qualities of the next Pope. I believe this dialogue remains relevant, despite discussing a Conclave to be held before the Vatican II Council, 62 years ago.
“A man is needed who sees the multitudes as Christ saw them, as sheep without a shepherd… who can bleed like them, admonish them, and always make them know that he loves them,” they say.
