Introduction

A single phrase can swiftly distance me from any political movement, and the Partido Acción Nacional’s newly adopted slogan, “Patria, Familia y Libertad,” is a prime example. This motto not only echoes the conservative mantra “Dios, Patria, Familia” reminiscent of 20th-century fascism but also resonates with concepts I fundamentally disagree with. The term “Patria” divides people unjustly, an idea I consider outdated.

Personal Beliefs vs. Party Platforms

I advocate for a global citizenship, with justice as my only “homeland.” The term “Familia” in its singular form implies support for traditional families, which translates to discrimination against other family structures, including same-sex couples and single mothers. While I join in the call for “Libertad,” I believe true freedom should not come at the expense of perpetuating inequality.

There’s a necessary balance between liberty and equality, yet I suspect the PAN’s notion of freedom leans towards Milei’s libertarianism. I cannot, however, cast my vote for a party opposing bodily autonomy or personal freedom. A party reluctant to defend democracy is not one I can support, especially when discriminating against families directly contradicts liberal values.

Assessing Political Parties

Feeling isolated as a voter, I yearn for political proposals centered around Justice, Liberty, and Equality—a progressive understanding I align with. Morena, for instance, champions social ideals promoting equality, yet their commitment to liberty appears questionable. Their attacks on free speech, reluctance to legalize abortion, and failure to regulate the drug market cast doubt on their dedication to liberty.

Moreover, Morena seems to be distancing itself from genuine justice—both procedural and substantive. Their disregard for debate and deliberation further alienates them from democratic defenders. While they may have socially progressive ideals, their actions betray a conservative and authoritarian streak, prioritizing power retention over democratic construction.

Exploring Alternatives

The PAN is currently too far from my values, and Morena, despite its progressive facade, proves to be conservative and authoritarian. The PRI and MC also fall short of being viable alternatives for a voter like me.

Key Questions and Answers

  • What alternatives do you consider for voting? Currently, none of the major parties—PAN, Morena, PRI, or MC—align with my values and commitment to genuine democracy.
