Introduction

In the context of a symbolic date for Christianity, I take this opportunity to pause and reaffirm universal values.

Even amidst heightened conflict between nations, a truce is established for religious dates significant to all faiths, encouraging reflection on the message of peace.

Pope John Paul II’s Call for Universal Values

More than two decades ago, Pope John Paul II (QPD) addressed humanity through religious leaders, urging contemplation of truth, justice, love, and freedom as pillars of peace.

He recognized the pressing need for dialogue, understanding, and cooperation among the world’s major religions, especially between Christianity and Islam. This need for dialogue remains as relevant today, not just among major religions but also among all segments of humanity facing confrontation and distance.

The Role of Religion in Building Bridges

Pope John Paul II emphasized that religion should construct bridges between people, nations, and cultures, serving as a symbol of hope for humanity. This function, I believe, can also apply to politics—true politics, which is called upon to build bridges among people, nations, and cultures, acting as a symbol of hope for humanity.

Politics as a Builder of Dialogue

In a previous collaboration, I suggested that politics encompasses not only the pursuit and maintenance of power but also the construction of dialogue between people, nations, and cultures around truth, justice, and freedom as pillars of peace.

The Need for Dialogue in a Divided Nation

Our nation grapples with an unprecedented armed conflict, marked by its intensity and lethality. We have abandoned the fundamental method for achieving understanding and collaboration in pursuit of peace.

If leaders of major religions can find common ground for constructive and respectful dialogue, why is it so challenging for political and social organization leaders in our country to establish similar dialogue?

Regrettably, if the nation’s primary leaders persist in verbal violence, it creates a negative ripple effect among family members, fostering polarization and division between parents and siblings.

Positive Impact of Constructive Dialogue

Creating spaces for understanding and collaborative dialogue among leading political-social figures could generate a positive effect within families across our nation.

Embracing Common Ground Amid Divergence

While acknowledging points of contention and confrontation within our society, which contribute to our cultural richness, we must not base our coexistence on divergences but rather on our shared values that unite this great nation and country.

Reflection on Peace, Justice, and Freedom

These days are for reflection, meditation, and serenity regarding a message of peace and hope. If warring nations pause, if leaders of major religions can dialogue about global peace pillars, we too can pause to reflect on justice, freedom, and peace among ourselves.
