SSC Warns of Rising Fraud Attempts During Hot Sale 2025

As the Hot Sale 2025 approaches, set to take place from May 26 to June 3, authorities such as the Mexico City Security Secretariat (SSC) and the Federal Proconsumer Office (Profeco) have issued alerts about the rise in cyber fraud and provided key recommendations for safe online shopping.

SSC’s Recommendations to Avoid Cyber Fraud

The SSC’s Cybercrime Unit warns that during these days of high digital commercial activity, cybercriminals intensify their fraud attempts through fake websites, misleading messages, and identity theft of stores or banks.

  • Avoid suspicious links: Always access official sites through your browser without clicking on links received via message or social media.
  • Verify site security: Ensure the URL starts with “https://” and has a lock icon in your browser.
  • Be skeptical of excessive discounts: If an offer seems too good to be true, it probably is.
  • Do not share personal or banking data in unverified or informal channels.
  • Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on banking and payment platforms.
  • Keep devices updated with active antivirus and recent software.
  • Report suspicious activities to the Cybercrime Unit at 55 5242 5100, ext. 5086, or [email protected].
