Background on Puebla’s Development Polo for Technology and Sustainability
In Puebla, Mexico, the Economic Development Polo for Well-being (PODECOBI) has become a reality, according to Governor Alejandro Armenta. He announced that 80% of interested companies have signed letters of intent to invest in the Technology and Sustainability Capital.
No Land Speculation Allowed
Armenta emphasized that land speculation by investors will not be permitted. The primary goal is to promote development and shared prosperity, contrasting it with previous neoliberal governments who focused solely on foreign capital. The current administration has worked to revitalize this space.
“We are giving the land to Puebla residents, Mexicans, migrants, and foreign investors who want to invest, not speculate on land,” Armenta stated.
Capital of Technology and Sustainability
The Technology and Sustainability Capital in San José Chiapa was already operational, according to the Governor. President Claudia Sheinbaum detonated 400 hectares designated for creating PODECOBI. She decided to establish a Circular Economy Park in this area, which will not be a landfill or sanitary landfill but a waste transformation center for reuse.
Confirmed Participating Companies
Antonio Silva, Director of the Technology and Sustainability Capital, outlined companies confirmed to participate in PODECOBI. These include an electric vehicle production company, an agroindustrial project, a metal structure manufacturing factory, and a food flavor design company. They align with the Plan Mexico, reinforcing sectors such as chemistry, petrochemicals, textiles, electromobility, agroindustry, and pharmaceuticals.
Strategic Positioning and Collaboration
Silva highlighted that PODECOBI is the first scientific and technological park under Governor Alejandro Armenta’s vision, strategically located at the heart of Mexico with connectivity to Mexico City. It serves as a gateway to southeastern Mexico, making it a competitive point for economic development.
Academic and Industrial Collaboration
Celina Peña Guzmán, Secretary of Science, Humanities, Technology, and Innovation, mentioned that Puebla has consolidated an ecosystem based on Mexican humanism. Collaboration between industry and academia has attracted 60 courses in nanotechnology and artificial intelligence. A Diploma in Scientific Journalism will soon be developed.
Participation in National Technology Projects
Peña Guzmán reiterated Puebla’s involvement in 15 technology projects led by President Claudia Sheinbaum. Notable projects include the first Mexican electric car, Olinia; the Kutsari Semiconductor Design House; and the establishment of the Rosario Castellanos University.
